In this episode of the Decoding AI webinar series, Prayank Swaroop, Partner at Accel,  Nirant Kasilwal of Qdrant, and Ayush Garg of Portkey,  delved into Vector Databases. Together, they traced their history in recommendation systems (e.g., Spotify's Annoy Store) and feed rankings (e.g., Facebook's FAISS) and spoke on how VectorDBs excel in rapid data retrieval, especially for recommendation systems and semantic search, and support retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) for context-aware information retrieval.

The session highlighted the trade-offs involved in choosing a vector database, considering factors like real-time performance, embedding quantity, and dimensionality. Options like Qdrant and PZVector were discussed for their unique strengths of low latency and high performance.
